Orientation Training for First-Year Nursing Students in the 2025–2026 Academic Year
The Orientation and Career Unit of the Department of Nursing at Bartın University, Faculty of Health Sciences, organized orientation training for first-year nursing students on September 17, 2025.
In the opening speech, Prof. Dr. Sevim ÇELİK, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, provided general information about the university, introduced the faculty administration and academic staff, and emphasized the importance of student-centered education. Highlighting the opportunities available to support students’ academic and social development, Prof. Dr. ÇELİK set the tone for the program. Associate Deans Asst. Prof. Dr. Elif İŞLEK and Asst. Prof. Dr. Sibel ALTINTAŞ offered recommendations regarding quality assurance processes and procedures that students should pay attention to during their academic journey. Prof. Dr. Ayfer BAYINDIR ÇEVİK, Head of the Department of Nursing, presented information on the objectives and goals of the nursing program. Deputy Heads of Department Asst. Prof. Dr. Aylin KURT and Asst. Prof. Dr. Duygu ÖZER provided further insights into departmental operations and informed students about the key considerations they should keep in mind as external stakeholders in the educational process.
Orientation sessions were delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayfer ÖZTÜRK, Head of the Orientation and Career Unit, together with unit members Lecturer Eda KES and Research Assistant Hilal BÜYÜKTOPAÇ ÇAKICI. The sessions included practical information to facilitate campus life, explanations on quality assurance and accreditation processes, scientific and social activities, research and development studies, student rights and responsibilities, efficient use of resources, and zero-waste management. Throughout the program, students were thoroughly informed about the university’s governance structure and academic units. They were also introduced to the city of Bartın, including transportation facilities, dormitories, and essential aspects of city life. Communication channels and social media accounts of the faculty and the academic units in which the students are enrolled were also presented.
As part of academic guidance and advisory services, teaching staff members and their fields of expertise were introduced. Detailed information was provided on student rights and responsibilities, advisory processes, course registration procedures, and disciplinary regulations. In addition, double-major and minor programs were explained in detail, and students were encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities.
Further sessions addressed University Information Management System (UBYS) surveys, student satisfaction measurements, and course evaluation processes, emphasizing the importance of student participation in quality assurance. Guidance was also given on participation in scientific activities, library services, health services, dining hall and canteen facilities.
To support students’ social development, existing student clubs, their fields of activity, and faculty advisors were introduced, with exemplary projects showcased to encourage student engagement. Students also received detailed information about annual events such as the Science, Culture, and Sports Festival and the R&D Project Fair.
The program also included an introduction to the University Communication Center (RİMER), which enables direct access to senior management and provides a platform for submitting complaints, suggestions, and feedback. Awareness-raising sessions were held on zero-waste practices, energy management, water efficiency, and the effective use of resources.
Comprehensive briefings were given on national and international exchange programs (ERASMUS, Mevlana, Farabi), the EDUROAM network, online delivery of common courses, the E-Bilge application, anti-addiction initiatives, and part-time student employment opportunities.
Conducted in line with the orientation guide, this training program supported students’ adaptation to university life, while also familiarizing them with the city of Bartın and the opportunities offered by the university.
