Obesity Awareness Day Event Held in Our Faculty

It is important to raise awareness about obesity, as obesity, which is one of the most important health problems in the world, will create a health burden for future generations and is seen as an important risk factor for chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart diseases and joint pain. On behalf of this awareness, the "Obesity Awareness Day" event was organized by the Faculty of Health Sciences of Bartın University on March 14, 2022 at the Nursing Skills Laboratory of the Faculty of Health Sciences. Within the scope of the activity, the participants' height-weight, waist circumference and body mass index (BMI) calculations were made. A total of 94 people participated in our event, which attracted the attention of our university's academic staff, administrative staff and students. The first year students of the Nursing Department made and recorded the measurements with the support of the Nursing Fundamentals Department faculty members and transferred the measurement results to the participants. As a result of the measurement, the participants stated that they gained awareness about their body mass index, that they would increase their physical activity and that they would attach importance to healthy nutrition. We would like to thank the valuable participants who participated in our event.
